LEDs are particularly well suited for underwater lights used by SCUBA divers. Besides their durability and performance advantages, LED flashlights cast a bright white light that is especially helpful in an underwater environment, where colors are dulled and visibility can drop in an instant. A compact handheld dive light is useful for recreational diving, or as a backup light source for more technical underwater exploration. Here are four of the top pocket-size dive lights currently on the market.
Princeton Tec Torrent LED Dive Light
The Princeton Tec Torrent is the biggest and brightest light in this group – in fact, the Torrent could probably function as a primary dive light, but it’s still compact enough to be used as a backup. Eight AA batteries power the 95-lumen light for up to 30 hours, and the Torrent is depth rated to 100 meters (over 300 feet). A Maxbright LED produces an optically collimated beam that’s wide enough to simulate daylight conditions through the user’s peripheral vision.
The Princeton Tec Torrent is available at Amazon, starting at $59.99.
Ikelite PCm LED Flashlight

The PCm is the most compact model in Ikelite’s PC series of dive lights, and it measures just four inches long. But this little light packs a big punch: a five-watt high-intensity LED generates up to 48 lumens of light output for five hours, thanks to four AA alkaline or NiMH cells. The PCm is depth rated to 300 feet, and the twist design of the power switch means it can be operated one-handed.
You can find the Ikelite PCm LED flashlight in five colors at Amazon for $69.95.
Tektite Trek 4 LED Flashlight

The Trek 4 is Tektite’s upgraded version of their popular Trek light, now with four LEDs. It’s not the brightest dive light on the market, but its 12.4 lumen beam shines at full power for 20 hours on a single set of 3 AA batteries, and then manages another 80 hours of usable light. Double o-ring seals and ABS/lexan construction keep the Trek 4 waterproof to a whopping 1,000 feet. The Tektite Trek 4 is just over seven inches long, and includes a wrist lanyard and rubber glare guard.
The Tektite Trek 4 LED flashlight is available at Amazon for $29.95.
Pelican Nemo 2410 Recoil LED Flashlight

The Pelican Nemo 2410 is a simple, rugged, and bright LED dive light. It uses Pelican’s Recoil LED design to produce an 84-lumen collimated beam of light. Four AA batteries power the Nemo 2410 for up to 32 hours. The seven-inch case is constructed of tough ABS resin, which keeps the light waterproof to 500 feet.
The Pelican Nemo 2410 dive light is available for $42 at Amazon in yellow, black, and blue.
