The Brunton L5 LED headlamp is so bright that it’s far beyond the needs of most users. But if merely lighting a patch of darkness isn’t enough for you, and you need to re-create daytime conditions, take a look at what Brunton calls “hands down, the brightest LED headlamp available.”

The Brunton L5 is all about sheer power: the 5-watt Luxeon K2 LED throws a beam up to an incredible 246 feet. The L5 doesn’t bother with all the settings and options found in some more mainstream headlamps, but it does offer 4 intensity options to vary battery use, and it gives close-up flood light and strobe options in addition to its long-distance beam.

The rechargeable 4.5Ah NiMH battery gives power for up to 50 hours depending on usage. Brunton also included a nifty power-regulation feature that automatically reduces light distance when the battery starts to weaken, instead of simply dying and leaving you stranded in the dark.

All that power comes at a price: the Brunton L5 requires a pretty hefty battery pack, and the price tag is more than double the cost of some competitors. But for serious users like cavers, adventure racers, or rescue professionals, the L5 is an amazingly bright and powerful headlamp.

The Brunton L5 LED headlamp is available at Amazon.
